WHY A CAT TAGS A TERRITORY
There is a popular belief that only cats can put marks on the corners of walls, doors or furniture, while females do not observe such unforgivable behavior. However, this is not so at all, it happens that a cat marks itself like a cat. The pet approaches the fifth point usually to a vertical surface, raises its tail, shakes it and releases a few trickles of urine. And she doesn’t just pee at all (the little need of the female is seated), so the mustachioed prankster puts her “brand” marking on the surface that interests her. In this article, we will understand why the cat marks the territory, and also find out how to deal with such behavior.
Reasons why a cat marks territory
In fairness, we note that cats mark territory much less often than cats. But the owner of the female, which marks the house, this is not easier. And to begin with, you need to understand why, in general, the pet suddenly begins to leave urinary marks here and there. We list 6 main reasons:
Why does a cat mark territory
Attempts to call a male during estrus. In most cases, flowing cats mark the front door. They do this to alert a potential sexual partner of their readiness for mating;
Fight for territory with other cats or cats that also live in the apartment. Many pets have a strong dominant character, they are not ready to concede to others tailed or a shred of personal space. With the help of marks, the cat leaves on the furniture (bed, armchair, sofa, etc.), doors or on the walls a unique smell of its own urine, which makes it clear to other animals that this place is already taken;
Moving to new housing. The smell in a cat’s home seems familiar, but in a strange house the pets feel uncomfortable, as literally all of it is saturated with extraneous aromas. It is not surprising that a cat can start tagging in a new apartment or in a new house to spread the smell of its own secretions. By the way, cats can mark in their home after repairs, when an unfamiliar smell comes from new wallpaper, flooring, carpets or furniture;
Stress. It also happens that a cat marks corners or doors in an unstable emotional state. What are the causes of stress in cats? There are a lot of them: a sharp transfer to a new feed, a change of owner, relocation, repair, the appearance of a new family member in the house, illness, constant fear of someone or something. Under stress, the cat marks, suffers from jumps in blood pressure, appetite changes (from a complete refusal to eat to irrepressible gluttony), screams loudly or lies indifferently in a dark corner, starts to follow the fur coat unnecessarily (literally licks the hair to the bald patches, nibbles itself, even if no parasites). In some cases, animals have urinary incontinence, diarrhea, or constipation;
Boredom and loneliness. Sometimes a cat marks an apartment if she lacks communication and games with the owner. In this case, leaving tags is a peculiar way to attract the attention of the adored owner;
Revenge. Cats are cute animals, but many of them are quite vindictive. They can easily take revenge on the owner for something (for example, for screaming, swearing or kicks with a slipper on the pope). In such situations, not only doors or walls can be marked, but also the personal belongings of the owner (his pillow, clothes or shoes, bag, etc.).
