Sphynx Cat Care

Sphynx cats are wonderful pets. They are distinguished by a soft, flexible character and do not cause problems with coat. However, caring for a hairless cat has its own nuances that you must be aware of. We will talk about the features of caring for the Sphynx breed in our article.
10 rules for the care of the sphinx
We control the temperature in the apartment. Cold, drafts and sphinxes are incompatible concepts. Hairless cats feel comfortable at temperatures from + 25 ° C. A lower temperature leads to hypothermia and colds.
We get clothes for cats. Even if you do not plan to walk the Sphinx, he will still need special warm clothes in case the apartment is cool.
Sphinx Care
We protect from direct sunlight, heaters and batteries. Despite dislike for the cold, warmth for sphinxes can also be dangerous. The skin of naked cats is very sensitive. If your pet “sunbathes” on the windowsill under the sun or in an attempt to warm itself, it is pressed against the battery, it will get a serious burn. Be sure to protect the cat from hot surfaces and make sure that it does not overheat in the sun.
We arrange bath procedures once a week. That’s right, sphinxes need to be bathed much more often than cats of other breeds. The secret of the sebaceous glands and dust quickly accumulate on bare skin, clog pores and lead to the formation of blackheads and black spots. To avoid this, do not neglect hygiene procedures. If desired, bathing can be replaced by a thorough, but neat wipe.
After swimming, carefully wipe the cat with a soft towel and moisturize the skin.
We use shampoos and moisturizers designed specifically for hairless pets. We already wrote that the sphinx skin is very sensitive. Any improper means can cause a serious allergic reaction and lead to a deterioration of the skin. You can purposefully often bathe a cat with the hope of preventing blackheads, but improperly selected shampoo will lead to the opposite effect. Be careful!
Wiping the body daily. If swimming for the sphinx is not a daily procedure, then wiping the body is still desirable every day. Use a clean cloth soaked in plain water.
We regularly clean our eyes. The eyes of the sphinxes get dirty more often than their furry counterparts. Due to the lack of hair and eyelashes (some varieties of sphinxes have no eyelashes at all), mucus accumulates in the conjunctival sacs, which must be removed in a timely manner with a clean cloth. Read more about this in the article “How to flush a cat’s eyes?”.
Sphynx breed care
We monitor the condition of the ears. Sphinxes have no hair in their ears to protect the ear canal from contamination. So, this mission rests with the owner. Monitor the condition of the cat’s ears and remove contaminants in a timely manner with a special lotion. Read how to do this in the article: “How to clean a cat’s ears at home?” As a rule, the sphinx only needs to clean its ears once a week.
We feed more often. The body of the sphinx spends a lot of energy to maintain optimal temperature. To make up for expenses in a timely manner, feed your pet more often, but in small portions. Choose only balanced full feed of the super premium class. They have everything that a pet needs for proper development.
These are the main features of the care of the sphinx. They may seem complicated to a beginner, but in practice everything is elementary. You quickly catch the wave!
